THE ROOTS

Hi, my name is James. I am from Manchester, England and first arrived in the States in April 2004 to coach youth soccer (football). Not long after my arrival I met my wife, Mischa (who is from Flint, and the most bad ass lawyer in Michigan). We have been married since 2008, and reside in Ann Arbor and have two girls, Lily and Pippa. Once Pippa was born, I stopped coaching and stayed home to raise the girls.

Once they started school I soon discovered I wanted to gain more knowledge in making food. I always enjoyed doing it but lacked technique. I signed up to the Culinary Arts program at Schoolcraft College and enjoyed it thoroughly, learning a great amount from some great teachers and chefs.
I have an Associates Degree and I gained a Dean’s letter every semester finishing with a grade average of 3.9; That darn Pastry class!

I am hoping to bring you foods from many cultures worldwide as its something that interests me and I will be creating a test kitchen environment to try out recipes and ideas that will be available for purchase. My favourite chefs are Antony Bourdain (RIP), Francis Mallman, Rene Redzepi, Jose Andres, Calum Franklin, Bryan Polcyn, and April Bloomfield. They have inspired me to follow my passion for food. I hope I can bring this passion into to my food and onto your table.

Why Lost Worker Bee?

As I said, I am from Manchester, England. It is a very working class industrial town in the north of England. The symbol of our beloved home is the worker bee. Over many generations some (not all) people have seemed to have forgotten of its existence. I am proud of where I come from and it means a lot to me to use this name; for anyone wondering - I am a Red. In my spare time,

Outside of the Kitchen.

I boiterously watch my beloved United fail miserably. I also took up chess during covid, as if my mind wasn't busy enough. I also love golf, because who doesn't love spoiling a good walk.
